What is acetylide ions?

Acetylide ions are negatively charged ions that contain a carbon triple bond with another element, such as hydrogen (HC≡) or a metal (MC≡). They are highly reactive and can function as strong bases and nucleophiles in chemical reactions. Acetylide ions are commonly used in organic synthesis for their ability to add to electrophilic compounds, such as carbonyl groups, and for their use in forming carbon-carbon triple bonds. However, they must be handled with care as they are highly reactive and can easily decompose or explode in air or when in contact with water or acids.
